That's a cool video- it's for big ship engines and probably made in the 40's - lot's of old school footage and hand drawn animation. 10 entertaining minutes.

Yes - really cool to see the P-V curve traced out in real time. It all seems like such a lost art when you see the mechanic elegancy of measuring devices like that.

No, but if you add one exhaust valve, and connect the piston to the crankshaft with a single rod, you're most of the way there.
 
I think you'd have to add three more valves for the newfangled DDs. But it's neither here nor there. My comment was only in jest.

Good find on the video. Very cool stuff. :cool:
 
OK, the "newer" are 4 exhaust valve. (Wonder why....) Thanks though, glad you enjoyed it.
 
If you are a DD engineer, and you start adding valves, they quickly go to your head. That's why.
