  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
In January 2010 my wife and I went to Florida to bring back to North Carolina a tired 1976 43 DC. Booker described her as "threadbare." During the past 5 years she has been painted with Awlgrip, all new electronics, new interior, all new glass, etc, etc. Now, she is complete with major service of the 903 Cummins engines (all new hoses, impellers, thermostats, zincs, spin on filters, elimination of fuel coolers, acid dip of heat exchangers, transmissions oil coolers, etc).

Purchase price $50,000 in 2010. Spent $100,000 during past 5 years. Results.....weigh 20 pounds less, more flexible, lower blood pressure, pride of ownership.

During the 5 years we have run her to Florida and back and made numerous shorter trips without incident. Next year, the Great Lakes for the summer. Worth it....yes. Enough said.

Sounds like a great project for both you and the boat. Post some before and after pics.

Please Post Pics!!!!0

We are beginning our third year on a 79 model. love to see her!

Wow! I'd like to see some photos as well. Good luck with the adventures it sounds like you have the boat ready for them!

She found a great home with lots of love. Enjoy her Mel.

I think the 43DC is a wonderful boat, and look forward to pictures of your boat and what you did with her. You mentioned money spent, and wisely did not refer to that expense as an investment. The return on money spent does not show up in the ledger under the column, what you can later sell the bot for, but in the enjoyment you and those important to you received from the expenditure. It appears you have invested well in yourself. That is how I fell about the 43 we have had since 2008.

There are some photos in Mel's Gallery. She is a very handsome boat indeed, and commendably very original looking as well (better than mine in that respect) Kudos to you all for following through on your dream and giving a new lease on life to a fine old boat.

Beautiful pics in your gallery- your boat is lovely. Enjoy being over that 5 year hump! She's really choice and you and your family should be proud.

Looks great!! I love that model year. After they added the dinette, I think it was just a waste of space. My dad owned a 1975. In 76 they moved the salon AC from next to the breakfast bar to up above the galley in front. That was much better. Great boat!!

Hi Mel! I have the exact same year and model boat, complete with 903's. Been 8 years for me and dare I say I'm finally about 'done' having completed similar list as you. Surprised you got rid of the fuel coolers. Way I've understood their function is they keep the 2 rear bunks from getting hot as they sit directly on top of fuel tanks. Anyway, sure sounds like you have put on many more miles and hours enjoying her proper - great to hear she has been so reliable. Keep on Trucking, I mean Boating! - Scott.

ps: If you ever have to replace the transmission oil coolers, turbos, PT fuel pump, front crankshaft oil seals, water pumps, or adjust injectors and/or valves pm me. I could give you some been there done that advice.
