  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Many on the forum had the chance to meet Bill Root. I helped him with hurricane prep and did some work on his boat when he had it in Sanford. I sent him a text and his daughter replied that he passed suddenly in April.

She is planning a memorial in central Florida in October if anyone would like information contact his daughter Jocelyn at 651-497-4822.

I never met Bill. When he had his 43DC, I saw it at the marina in Pentwater, MI while they were doing the loop. I stopped by to introduce myself but no one was on the boat. Sorry to hear of his passing. And sorry I missed the opportunity to meet him in person.

Did he still own the 54MY?

Last time I saw him was getting the boat ready to go to Lauderdale for his broker.

He kept it in titusville for years. Nice boat and he did keep it well.

He also was very involved with old mahagony speedboats.

A real nice guy.

Thank you for sharing Scott. Never met Bill in person but he was a valued contributor for many years. He had tons of great advice and was always freely gave it, I always thought of him as the 43DC guru. I would have loved to have several beers with him. God Bless you Bill, may you be Heaven watching over all of us.

I’m just now seeing this as is Robby who showed it to me. I met Bill when he sold his 43 to Robby. Definitely a nice guy who will be missed. We just never know. Condolences to the family and to those who knew him well.

From Facebook April 19

It is with the most devastating of heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother & Friend Bill Root . We are all eternally grateful for every moment we were blessed to have with such a wonderful man. He is now in the loving embrace of God and those who went before he held most dear. As this was very sudden we will have more details to follow. We wish to leave you all with some words that I feel he would have wanted all of us to hear, I will paraphrase “......I cannot feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost...”

We love you

Please forgive the lateness of this update but it’s been a tough couple of weeks. We were all able to spend the last two weeks together as a family and do our best to carry on in the wake of his passing. We spent many hours amongst friends and family remembering the amazing man Bill Root was. To that end we wanted to let everyone know that there will be a larger gathering to celebrate his life once the current environment allows. We are targeting sometime in the fall in central FL and will keep you all updated once more details are finalized. Please know how much your outpouring of support has meant to all of us. It’s a truly touching testament to the kind of man he was. We look forward to gathering with you all soon. God bless.

I met Bill at the 2nd Hatt owners school, and we communicated in later years when he had the 54 near Savannah. Total gentleman who will be missed.
