  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
Well ... I made the move .. I'm here in Fla. ... and in reality, I'm pretty much lovin' it. The 45 is in Montauk and was hauled earlier this week. Weather here is beautiful .......
Now the painful part .... riding to work on A1A and seeing a very big, very fast sportfish running a few miles offshore .... and I gotta go to work :-(

it hurts !!

Do you hear me playing the violin???

Congratulations on the move!

And to think, most people envy us living in Fla..... But you pointed out the down side of paradise, going to work while others are fishing......
So where did you move to? And why didn't you bring the boat down instead of "winterizing it" ??

Moved to ft lauderdale ... work on Las Olas ... house on a canal just north of Commercial on the ICW. I have access to a 27 Blackfin down here (soon to go for sale ... downsizing to a 24 topaz CC). Hatt is north, because I really didn't have time to do the move AND I'm probably going to rent out my Sag Harbor house during the summers and stay on the boat when I'm up there. During the summer i did and plan to be "up north" lots.

It was good meeting you at Sam's in Lauderdale the other day when your computers were down at work.

they never figured it out that I had pulled the plug

Hey Steve, sorry I'm going to miss you again in Sag Thanksgiving weekend. Who's going to help close down the Marguerita joint that Saturday?

Congrats, and enjoy. Call when you're up here. Where in Montauk did you haul? I'll be able to take a look on the 24th.

Kevin

Bertramp,

Was born/raised there.... (actually in Plantaion).

Do miss being there...Kinda.

Actually miss the clear water and fishing.

Do NOT miss the people who now live there... or the traffic.

Heck, at the age of 56 realize I'm still 20 yrs younger than the average driver on the road there

Was just in Fort Lauderdale for the boat show and I have to add that the drivers are for the most part unbelievable. My unscientific conclusion is 20% are good safe drivers and the other 80% was split even between a group that was in a continuous game of chicken with every other car, and the impaired that had no idea what they were doing, appearing to be blind and deaf. Thankfully, once you got 100 miles or so north of Fort Lauderdale on I-95 normality returned. Auto insurance rates must be about as bad as boat insurance rates in the area.

Just go another 20 miles South, Miami drivers make the Lauderdale drivers look like a bunch of nuns and priests......

Bertramp, welcome to South Florida. Nice model Hatt, too:)

whenever i return from a long road trip, the last 75 miles between Palm Beach and Miami are the ones i fear the most. The only way to survive miami driving is to focus 100% on the driving and anticipate others mistakes and bonehead moves.

for instance, it is very common for Miami Dade buses to run red lights... never start on green without looking left and right...

what amazes me is that no one uses turn signals.
next trip north is thanksgiving and I'll be in Sag to help close La Superica (best margaritas on the east end.
I hauled at Montauk marine basin. Tower being replaced with a hard top and 6v92s going in, should be a different boat.

We'll be around the 23rd and 24th. Maybe we'll get a quick hello on the way by.

One last observation about Florida driving/drivers that may save someone a ticket. On I-95 in all of Florida, my conclusion is there is no speed limit. The flow of traffic was easily 80 MPH and at times I was doing 90 MPH just to stay with the crowd.

Now for the warning. When you cross the Georgia border, the world changes. In the short distance that I-95 goes through Georgia, I saw no less than 25 state troopers with cars pulled over. Looked to me that they just sit there and wait for those who fail to slow down when they cross the border. Bet those southern counties have low taxes with all the traffic ticket income.

It's the same way on the West coast. Don't even try to go between Naples and Ft Myers at 2 in the afternoon on I75. 3 hours to go 35 miles. Congrats on your move to Florida. I to am looking at property in the De-land area.

You got that right!! Not even the Miami Dade police cars!

And the Miami pedestrians are the worst! Most of the locals in Miami truly believe the world revolves around each of them individually. No matter what the traffic or pedestrian signal, they are always walking out into traffic without any worries and without looking. THAT drives me crazy. Driving on the surface streets is like a constantly changing obstacle course. Fortunately, I only put about 2,500 miles/year on my car, if that.

turn signal only gives the enemy a clue as to what you will do next :-) Use your signal before changing lane and you can be sure you will end up stopped dead because the gaps will have disappeared...

Angela, dont' complain, you could very well dinghy to work ! :-)

I agree with you Pascal, but times have changed. Even if you don't use a blinker, people are now noticing drivers checking their mirrors before they change lanes. In an attempt to keep you honest, they're using the wrong blinker to throw you off. Happened to me twice last week in Little Haiti, no sh*t. First time i thought maybe it was a mistake. Second time, i felt the conspiracy. The blinker says left, but they're really going right..................Brilliant!!!!!!
