The Book of Genesis…

The Book of Genesis… The Book of Karl…

There’s some symbolism for ya’. ;)

I gotta’ say thanks again man. I have learned SO MUCH from you. I'm indebted to you and there will ALWAYS be some Heineken’s for you aboard my boat. If you ever need a hand with anything, just give me a call. I owe you…

I was thinking that the FAQ Section could be renamed, The Book of Karl… But then, wait a min…

While Karl has had the “Word” on just about everything and we “Disciples” seek his wisdom in all of our boating trials and tribulations, there are other “Prophets” on here that I gotta’ thank also. You all have helped with your “Postings of Wisdom”:

MikeP, Passages, Pascal, Maynard, Dr. Jim, CaptDDIS, Liquid Asset, Boss Lady, Sky, Doug (Nonchalant1), egaito, Spartonboat1, Trojan, solanderi, garyd, Scrod…

There are others. Please don’t be offended if your name doesn’t appear here and you have contributed. You know who you are…:)

Thanks guys! You’ve all made me a better Boater. Here’s to ya’.:D

Re: The Book of Genesis…

I'd like to point out that your contributions and experiences help us too, Greg. Thank you for being part of this, and thank you for including me on the list. Of course, I noticed that my name was last... kidding.

I really enjoy helping out where I can, and I've learned a lot here. I've also had the opportunity to make contact with some really nice people that I never would have met otherwise. Thanks everybody.

I know it's been said before, but it bears repeating, the people are what make this forum so great. There's a huge pool of knowledge here and everybody's so good about sharing it. And I would point out, with courtesey and respect (at least 99.9% of the time ;) ) As a result, nobody appears to be afraid to ask a question or share an experience, which is what keeps the knowledge flowing. Keep up the good work, and thanks again to Sam's for providing us with this opportunity.

Re: The Book of Genesis…

oh, so this is the time for group hugs, chanting... maybe burning some incens and sitting in a yogi position on the beach facing sunrise ? ... :-)

jsut kidding... yep, we've got a great pool of knowledge here... incredible how much traffic has picked up since the move to the new server and format...

Re: The Book of Genesis…

Having the link on the Hatteras website doesn't hurt either.

Re: The Book of Genesis…

Amen and Amen!!!!!!!!
Genesis and the others are quite a REVELATION! (my boat name)

Re: The Book of Genesis…

I just like to be around intelligent people, everwhere else there are stupid people and the scary part is they are breeding, and it is not legal to shoot them. LOL

P.S. Thanks to Sam's for providing this forum.

Re: The Book of Genesis…

Karl is "da man". No question about it.

Re: The Book of Genesis…

Geeze guys. You don't get it.

One of the sub plots of this forum is called "Stump Karl". The objective is to find a topic where he has no answer or opinion. You get extra credit if he makes a mistake.

I almost won a few times. I thought I trumped him on his positions on crime and middle class wealth, but no, once again he deftly laid out his position and the forum agreed.

I've been on this site for 3 years. Someday, Karl will reply to a post with "I had not thought of that, good idea." and my life's work will be complete. :D

In the mean time, Karl - start writting that book. I'll buy it to look for typo's if nothing else.

Oh man, I get the extra credit! YIPPIE!!!!

I know I'm in danger right now but I got Him... once. :p

I won't make the mistake of bringing up what it was, unless He wants me to.

I'm gonna' go hide now, I know He's watching...

Re: The Book of Genesis…

Hehehehe.... heh, nobody's perfect :D

BTW, you want a hoot? Here's something that someone (NOT me!) wrote many years ago on exactly this topic...... back when I ran an ISP... the ISP was "MCSNet"

http://macedonia.uom.gr/~tef/spam/ThebookGenesis.htm

Enjoy.... :D

The original was dated from the early 90s, although the guy who put this in the "BSD Bible" dated it late '95.....

Re: The Book of Genesis…

I knew He was watching...

Re: The Book of Genesis…

Yep, correct - a ton of knowledge here. I used the think the hottest site (for answers / general knowledge) was the Bertram31.com site. Not anymore....

Thanks to all of you and to Steve Mc. and his group.

Re: The Book of Genesis…

Wow! I just read the first book of Karl. I can't wait to read his next 65 books, starting with KarlExodus. ;)

This is why I refer to all of you collectively as "The Hatteras Gods", a common phrase in my vocabulary (and log book!).

Re: The Book of Genesis…

Sometimes I just don't understand people. I recently met a guy with a Hatt that really didn't even know what he had. It is just odd that some owners don't know and don't want to know about their boat, it's history, the company that built her, and other models built at the same factory. Oh well, to each his own, I guess. I prefer to keep learning from the "gods".

Re: The Book of Genesis…

I was stationed in the canal zone in Panama' (1984) when the first Hatteras was discovered and repatriated back to the Factory. I had seen this boat several times but did not know that it was the first one, until I saw it being lifted aboard a freighter and asked why would someone go to the expense of hauling a project boat like that back to the states and what was all the fanfare about that old tug of a boat. The guy told me it was the "first" Hatteras and she was returning home. It then made perfect sense to me. Fast forward to 2006, I was at Slane's Marine and saw the pictures on the wall of someone lifting a Hatteras on a freighter, and I realized that it was the same boat. Right beside it was the boat in restored condition. I realized then that my decision to fix up Boss Lady was more than just fixing up an old boat. I too was keeping history alive. Boss Lady and all the Hatteras still out there are testiments to great boat builders. Boss Lady's history is very colorful, from luxury yacht to drug runner, sunk once, and is still kicking. She will probably outlast me.

Cheers

Re: The Book of Genesis…

I'll chime in on the kudos to Carl, even for any of you without a 45c...the guy's amazing.

The truly great thing about this whole forum is that even ONE right-on comment about the way to do something (especially if you were originally headed in a dangerous direction on how to tackle a repair) the right way can be worth so much $$$. And how may of us would say we only got ONE decent piece of advice here? None of us, I'd hope! Not if you've been paying attention! Plus, heck, this place is fun!
