  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Since the first voyage for Randy was a bit over the top. I thought it would be interesting to track his latest trip. takin g a 70 MY from SC to FL.

The first disaster diverted was mine. I mistook his starting point somehow thinking he was leaving Columbia SC. I have been informed that they are leaving from Charleston this morning and that even randy could not get the boat to columbia.

Per Randy they leave today for Jax or St Augustine FL. Running out side with plans for getting to the ICW anbd inlets shoulf the need arise. I will tryo to contact him later and see how the trip is going.

Randy if your lurking on the site I wish you smooth sailing. Light winds and a safe voyage. After the run on freebird god knows you deserve it.

I hope to have more to report later. Hopefully all good.

Randy, if you are lurking I wish you 6' at 7 sec. :p Ahhh payback.....

It looks nasty of the Fl coast until Monday. Good luck.

hope they dont try the daytona inlet, a guy sank a 70 my there a couple of years ago. narrow inlet and swift current

Randy is off in true FREEBIRD style.

10:00 am or so I got the call that the Diver has been underneath to clear the props of growth so they can get up on plane. The boat had sat for 3 months and the running gear was grown over. While he was down there he found a thruster propeller missing so they will need a replacement. Per the Caption the thruster still has 1 prop and is functional if needed but since its only a 70 footer they will be on the water in transit soon

Lets see.

1) Freebirds Maiden voyage

2) Randy on my boat for the holiday parade unable to get on plane because the props had catchers mitts of worm tubes

3) This Trip off to a running stop.

Not even Randy deserves that luck.

If your lurknig Randy call me with the update of the good news.

Ok just s few more tidbits from Randy a few minutes ago.

They were still having trouble with the engine making RPM so changed / Drained the fuel filters and were able to get on the water running right. Shold be in Savanna by 4:00 today. More to follow.

Ok this boat owner has been planning this move for how long and he is just checking this stuff today? What else did not get checked, oil lines?

Right, but there probably isn't a single one of us that hasn't left the slip having failed to check something. So let's wish him a good trip and no more surprises, shall we?

I'm sure theyll find out when shes on the pins with the weather out there. Dont forget, the boat is captain maintained too !

A boat and trip like that would take a weeks worth of prep work, thinking it out and then there is the provisioning. I'll bet they forgot the birdseed too. I hope the owner brought the cage cover ... ws

LOL, that is a good one. So much for Captain maintained!

I hope the > DAVIT < works for the dinghy. :D ws

Sounds like he needs a new captain. There are captains and then there are CAPTAINS.

let's add...

4) Carl hitting a sunk vessel that no one had ever hit in a busy marina channel... the prop wasn't a pretty sight
5) Me burning a starter the day after Randy came aboard to say hi...

Poor Randy is going to get a complex.

After further reasearch the last two posted issues can not be tied to Randy. He was not aboard either vesser at the time of the trouble.

He is responsible for the upgrades of the little grey boxes left on vessels he has visited but continually referers to them and special maintenance free bilge pump controllers with no user servicable parts inside. I wonder how they work?

The new adventure begins! Even in absence, he entertains us!!!

At least Randy's up and cruisin' while I'm on the hard.

Calm seas....full bottles!

K :o

I wish him well on his voyage and I hope the > STABES < work well! :D LOL

They left Charleston at 12:00 and arrived in Savannah at 6:00 PM without incident, seas were 3-4 feet and they were running 17 knots at 1950 RPM.

Question for any of the bird's flock: What's the deal on this 70CPMY? If it makes it to the destination in FL the bird writes a check? That's one heck of a sea trial!!

The "new" wore off already, when i talked to him he was sitting a 42 catamaran sailboat drooling! I told him to forget about it, too slow, it only cruises at 6 knots. He said yea but it has electric winches! LOL I told him they are too complicated and if only one engine is running it will only go in a circle due to the 22 foot beam. The 70 is just a ferry adventure trip. :D
