Nice work! My one regret re living on the boat when I'm here is that I can't pull it out of the water to do such work because then I have no place to live! I'd like to install a new depth sensor/remove an old one...

I got here/started dewinterizing yesterday and found two big water leaks. First was the fridge ice maker valve which had split over the winter - obviously no pink had worked it's way into the valve this time . Also one of the check valves for the shore water supply quit working. It didn't split/break (plenty of pink) but the internal check quit "checking" so when I filled the tank, started the pump, water rushed out of one of the shore water connectors! Wasn't a big problem - I just screwed the cap on the water connector tightly (usually I don't have the caps on tight, just screwed on a turn or two). Had to order a couple of new check valves since the local Hdware store didn't have the size I needed.

One question, in looking at the pics, your new thruster looks very small for the boat. I don't know anything about them but the ones I have seen seem to look much bigger in relation to the hull, which is one reason I never thought about one because I really use the storage space in the bow area and was concerned about the space the thruster takes. I was under the impression it would take up most of the space there but your's looks like it takes very little. What size thruster is that?

Again, nice work!

its a Lewmar 185tt 5.0 12v. 8" dia tube . fits fight in v berth lower locker once you cut out the floor. worked perfectly many times yesterday ... at Piney Narrows fuel dock during a 5 knot tide flow , and getting in my slip.. so glad I did it. it makes a "3 point turn into a 2 ".

If you cant do the fiberglass or are intimidated then hire someone to do that part , after that it is certainly easy to bolt in the unit . basically center and drill , apply sealant and hook up to battery via supplied ANL fuse and a battery on off switch .

I was wondering why you even need a bow thruster, but with a current like that and a narrow fairway and some wind combined it would be scary. I'm buying my next boat up north. The boats up there get good treatment and dont get exposed to this horrible florida sun. You have done a great job with yours and I could only wish to have a shinny hull like that. I got woke up at 4:00 am with water slashing on my swim platform. So i guess I wont be changing zinks today......

nobody "needs" a bow thruster... nobody needs cruise control in a car, or electric windows .
It just make things simpler . I pulled up to the fuel dock with my ass being pushed by a 5 knot tide flow, whipped it around and popped the thruster and the boat tucked right in without many shift negotiations. the captains that ran with me said "like a boss" . good job. Im emphatic over the help it offers in those tight moments . my first bow thruster, highly recommend it..

Did you take her to Baltimore? BTW Thanks for filling up at Piney - The Condo Association needs the revenue!

no prob Eric. You have to come up and see it when shes done inside...

Your absolutely correct. I would love to have one too. I know what a 5kt current looks like, and its scary. BT's are great to have. I saw a ripping current at Beaufort city docks and a defever trying to come in next to me. Luckily he hit the boat accross from me, and he had a bow thruster. Sometimes its better to stay on the fuel dock until slack tide. I didnt mean to say you cannot drive a boat though. Still a great job on the boat.

Yep, one of the biggest concerns I have with bow thrusters is they are often undersized and give the operator more confidence than he should have. Seen lots of folks get into trouble.
