A few years ago, I bought an oil change pump to replace the one in my boat's plumbed-in oil change system. The original was a Reverso impeller pump- not the greatest. Each impeller basically lasted a season- in other words, one oil change. This year, with the Reverso pump finally not working at all, I took the system out of the boat, brought it home, and adapted the new pump to the Reverso manifold and mounting. I think the new pump is an Oberdorfer- it's all bronze, it's a gear pump, not a rubber impeller pump, and with the system installed in the boat, I finally got to try it out.
Each engine holds 15-16 quarts. It appears to take about two minutes to empty the engine oil pan completely.
My only problem is this: I don't recall who I bought it from. But, if my memory is accurate and it was a forum member who had these for sale, I thank you, my boat thanks you, and I suspect everyone else who bought one thanks you. As I recall, it was a bargain, and worth a great deal more than the cost. And if I were shopping for an installed oil change system, I'd get a bronze gear pump from the beginning.
Is anyone else using this oil- Mobilgard SHC1 40wt. This is a synthetic made specifically for high-speed four-cycle marine diesels. I found out about it from Tony Athens at Seaboard Marine in CA. They have been using it in engines and generator sets for years.
