Pascal:
I just saw the report you gave to Waterway Guide on ICW conditions New York to Florida. What an awesome job.
The anchorage information was particulalrly useful. I have done this route a couple of times in our 43' Hat and used several of the anchorages. Now that I have the 54 footer I was a bit concerned about finding anchorages with enough holding and swing room. Your recap gives me much more confidence as I plan the trip for next May.
On a side note, Mile Hammock is a great anchorage, but anyone planning to use it should have an alternate. We were in there last year, just sitting down to dinner about 1800 hours, when I heard a loud rap on the side of the hull. I went up on deck to find a boat load of Marines armed to the teeth, who told me I had to leave because they were going to do a night exercise. I explained it was after dark and all the marinas were closed, but they were unsympathetic. Fortunately the fuel dock at the River Marina was open, so we pulled in and tied up there. Unfortunately we were in such a hurry to get underway that we left the dinner on the table in the salon. When we went back down the food was all gone and the dog had a big smile on her face.
Thanks again, Pascal for the terrific report. You went way above and beyond.
Would it be OK if I forward it on to the folks at the great loop Cruisers association? Many loopers will be heading up the AICW in a few months.
