My VDO temp gauges on my 8v71s are reading 220, but my mechanicals are at 185. I pulled the ground on the bridge and both gauges pin at the high side. also, my gen gauge wont go above 100. Any thoughts on where I should go next? ive had problems in the wiring/fuse panel in the past with dirty fuses and connections, would a not so good power connection, cause this?
the oil and volt gauges are fine..
thanks.

Sounds like high resistance. If you make a jumper from the sender to the gauge that will confirm old corroded wire if the gauge then checks OK. If not, it's the sender. Ground is good, no ground will peg gauge.

gauges and senders were replaced due to this symptom. I disconnected a common ground on the bridge and both engine gauges went to full hot. sorry I didn't mention this in the earlier post

Same answer really. Run a jumper. Gauges will peg high with no ground. That part is norman.
