Teak Oil

Can anyone recommend a quailty exterior teak oil, I haven't had much luck with the products I have used in the past.Thanks

I have never found teak oil to be of any use at all on exterior wood UNLESS you clean/reapply it every month or so. That being said, it is NOT a finish so I guess that's not a surprise.

I have found that only a "real" finish - varnish, whatever - will provide what I want the teak to look like. Of course, that's all in the eye of the beholder.

I stripped the varnish off of my bow pulpit last year, recaulked, and then applied Intrelux teak oil. It still looks good, but it is ready for a couple more coats. I prefer varnish for rails and trim, etc, but not teak decks. And, a Hatt pulpit is essentially teak decking. Varnish on there is too slippery and the caulk joints cannot be varnished over very effectively.

If you want to try something diffrent look for Cetol SRD that's not the Cetol you get at West Marine it's not a marine product the SRD stands for siding roof deck. It's kind of halfway between teak oil and marine Cetol. It's available in diffrent shades Teak being one of them but I thought it was to dark I went with the natural. I thinned it 25% with mineral spirts brushed it on then wiped off the excess I did 2 coats like that. It looked good for 6 months in the FL sun on the teak deck of one of our old boats.

I know I'll get bashed for this, but if I were wooded down, I'd use Semco, either gold tone or gold/natural mixed. It never needs to be stripped!! period. I had it on the rails and door and window frames of my trawler from 1986 to 2006, and only striped it once...by accident.. when I washed it with a strong detergent. The wood didn't check and looked like wood. Annual maintenance is simply a light cleaning and a fresh application. The only down side I saw is if you were a 'bright work' fan, this doesn't shine, it simply looks like well cared for wood. And it's not slippery. The teak on that boat always brought compliments.

On the 48 series I MY, the PO had Cetol light and I've stayed with it because it is too much work to switch.

To each his own on wood finished. My dad always used Deks Olje. You don't see that around much anymore, but it is still produced. Their #1 finish is a good alternative to oil. It looks like an oil finish, but it does seem to last longer.

SEMPCO, natural color. lasts a long long time

I use WATCO Teak Oil. I pick it up at Lowe's It has worked great for my teak.
