I was wondering if I should have increased the size of my fuel tank vent when I went from gas to diesel? I am thinking it may be possible to get water in my tank from water splashing if the vent size is too small...creating a vacuum effect and taking in water when waves splash against the boat.

Another thing...are the screens inside of the vent somehow replaceable or do you have to replace the entire vent?

Thanks!

Jack

Why would you have more vacum? Are you using a lot more diesel than you did gas?

I am more efficient but I figured the amount of fuel taken from the tank at a given RPM is greater because my fuel lines to the engines were replaced from 3/8" to 1/2" and the vents remained the same. Granted the excess is returned to the tank I thought with the greater flow into the fuel injector pump a vacuum situation may be created and increase chances of introducing water thru the vent compared to the gas engines.

No it doesn't matter how much is cycling thru the system it has no efect on vacum. Only fuel consumed or removed from the tank has an efect. If your vents were OK before and now your using less fuel there is no problem.
