Has anyone here tried using the signal post off of the back of their alternator to provide the input for an electronic tachometer? Or have used an alternator tach signal adapter like this from Autometer? 1744761819780.webp

Both of my mechanical tach sender drives have failed on my 8v/71s so I'm looking for alternatives. Thanks!

probably a lot easier to go back with what detroit diesel and hatteras did

Did you check the little adapter in the back of the tach drive? Those are bad about breaking but easy to change out.

I just updated my 12s with an Aetna sender on my front pulley. I always wondered but my mechanical take off from the blower drive was off a bit.

Yes, Thank you. The boat is new to me, one of the mechanical drives is bent and missing the sender and the other engine is missing the sender. Since I have to replace almost everything, I'm looking at all options.
Regards,
Mark

Thank you! This is what I was looking looking for as an alternative that others have used.
Much appreciated!
Mark
