Hi All:

My tach drive cable tip broke off and I can’t get the cable out of the camshaft. I’ve tried pulling with a vise grips with no luck.

Am I missing anything or do I just need to keep pulling? Glendenning mentioned a slide hammer might work – that's one possibility - any others?

Also pictured is the drive adapter. I plan to service it – any suggestions on how to clean out the grease inside? What type grease should I put back in?

Thanks,

The end in the cam shaft is a square, so see which way it normally turns and the turn it the opposite way with visegrips before pulling. You can then lock on to it with visegrips and hit the visegrips sideways with a hammer to pull it out.

They are mean... Go to your local parts house they rent the slap hammers the right size ones.
The other post is also correct issue is finding out which way to turn the end of the cable is square and will ring off if it rings off them you got a mess
. Put some slick um on it and let it sit. Get a magnifying glass and look in the crack between cable and side of housing usually can see the twist starting.
It is wedged in because of the ring off. is binding in the hole. Not unsual...Befor putting a good cable in be sure the gear is running smooth it rang off for some reason..Have you greased the drive.
Also check the auto pilot side to see if it is binding ....

Be sure to purchase the chain from Glendenning other chains are smaller and wobble in the housing causing the tack to bounce .. I put dry graphite in my housing just for that purpose.
Its better than ky jelley.

Thanks for the replies so far. How do I service the drive adapter? What grease goes back in?
