For my shaft log hose clamps, I switched the prior owner's perf screw clamps over to beefy T-bolt clamps. The question is, how tight do you tighten these, since they seem to just get tighter and tighter as you crank the nut on the T-bolt. I don't wnat to split the hose material or crush the shaft log. I just quit when it seemed tight as heck and way tighter than I could get a perf screw clamp.

BTW - From 3 days on Lake Michigan, the shaft log glands now run cool and drip little after repacking with GFO and rotating the log hose 180 degrees to correct droop.

Doug,

I have a 30 year-old table listing hose clamp torques but they are for regular hose clamps, not t-bolts. I haven't seen one for T-bolts. For regular clamps:

Size 3-6 25-30 Inch Pounds
size 8-16 30-40 inch pounds
size 20 and up 40-45 inch pounds

Don't know if this is any help at all...

Mike,

Thanks. From years of doing hose clamps restoring old cars, I have a "feel" for how tight to get good clamping pressure without bending the perfs. It's just the T-bolt thing, which seems to apply unlimited pressure. I guess I'll just go by feel.

Doug
