  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
46' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1974 - 1981)
Toying with having cockpit deck done. Teak Decking Systems out of Sarasota just did a repair for me on another boat and real teak is out of the question $$$.
Anyone used any of the pvc/vinyl products out there- Nuteak, Flexiteak, ameriteak, Plastiteak, etc...
Wanting to know how do you like it and price/foot.
Thanks

Lots of previous posts on this. Try the "search forums" function upper right.

The good synthetic will cost the same or more than real teak.

I installed "Pemateek" a couple of years ago on my pilot house deck.
After examining samples of several others mentioned, I believe this has the best look and feel.
It is great underfoot and cleans up with a pressure wash.
It will get hot just like real wood if in open sun.
Cost $40 to $60 Sq. ft. depending on design.

Unfortunately teak is now way more expensive than the fake stuff...

I ve been getting quotes to redo a 7x18 swim platform. All five estimates ranged between $17k and $23k which comes to between 130 and $180 per square foot... Installed

Most of it is labor, as I ve gotten one quote for teak planks at about $4000

Hi All,

I recently had a look at cork decking installed in the cockpit of a sports fishermen. Coaming was done also. It was a few years old and looked great especially given it was neglected. Don't know the pricing, but it was installed by Stazzo Marine (local outfit). I'm sure they could provide specifics.

Worth a look see in my opinion.

Thanks for all the replies. I think the work we just did on the other boat came to approx. 165.00 a square foot. Hell even at 50.00 a square I am still looking at over 6,000.00 with a 125 square cockpit.
This project goes back on the wish list..

You got a pattern there is a guy in Harkers Island that can do it very well. Also if you call Hatteras they will give you names of subs and their numbers... Sam told me who to call at Hatters for some teak work which i did not do because of the look Teak cockpit corning boards...

World panel has 4x8 and 4x10 team panels pre-fabbed for 27/ft sq and 29/ft sq. respectively. They also have margin boards 6"x8' for about 75.00. I'm thinking about using this and installing myself by making a pattern, cutting out the sheet of teak/caulk panel and gluing to deck.

This seems to be as economical as some of the faux teak products, I believe the faux team I looked at was 45/ sq ft

I haven't gone further than getting estimates at this point, we re going to try to get another few months out of the existing teak:)

I had seen those prefab panels before, will have to check it out again.

Looks like the price of teak keeps going up though. I went to the nearby lumber store to get some stuff today and noticed price has gone up again. Wide planks of mahogany which used to be available are gone too, I ve been using Utile instead which they have in 18" to 20" planks. It s more in between mahogany and teak in color, not as resistant as teak but for interior work it's perfect. Got some Sapele too which is similar.

Hi Pascal we are having our Teak Decks refurbished by FERNANDO from Cortez Cove Marina in Cortez FL he to work for Teak Decking Systems "they told me to call him ONLY" our decks are comply shot no more rubber joints left since we have the older Hand laid Teak Decks which did not have the rubber joints all the way to the bottom so all my joints had to be rerouted "recut-regroved" and some of the grommets have to be removed and new holes drilled since they are popping thru , they are also going to sand them, they are half way done and i can't believe they r the same decks....i got some quotes from Teak Deck repair shops in FT. LAUDERDALE and they wanted from $35,000 to $40,000 way to much for my budget but after contacting FERNANDO they quoted me $14,200 for us its worth it to save my TEAK DECKS....we can't wait to see the hole boat done... they do FANTASTIC work here i will be a regular

Our "new to us" 58 MY is on the hard in Pensacola getting bottom paint and a fairly extensive post sea trial / survey punch list. While she is there we decided to replace the grungy carpet in the entire lower level with Plasteak Teak and Holly satin. Labor quote was $3,000, Plasteak material costs were $2,281.85

Question: Does anyone recommend getting the additional marine grade pad? The installers seemed to be indifferent about it. The current sub-floor seems smooth, and thankfully PO did not glue the carpet down.

Troendle Marine at Pensacola Shipyard overseeing the work.

One thing about the synthetic teak is that the underpayment really has to be smooth, I mean really smooth. It shows every little hill and valley because it molds or settles into the floor after a short while. I have it on my back deck and it's great but there is one area that I can see a bump. Drive me nuts!

Thank you Johnjen50. Your pointer may have saved us some real aggravation because we already had the materials ordered and the work scheduled without the pad. A closer look at the sub-floor revealed that it was probably not as smooth as it would need to be to avoid the bumps you described. That was the good news. The bad news....... had to order the padding. Additional cost for padding, adhesive, shipping, and labor: $3852.00 I guess that is the price of sanity later on because those bumps would bug the heck out of me later...

WOW! Sorry about that. That seems like a heck of a lot of money for padding, but I'll tell you if it keeps the look smooth it will be worth it. The PO of my boat did not spring for the padding and even though I'm the only one that notices that area it bugs me. Probably money well spent in the long run.
