Hatteras Model
53' CONVERTIBLE (1969 - 1980)
I have a 53C, 1980 and am looking to replace my current teak platform with a fiberglass one. (an incident with a dock and a broken trans lever took care of the teak one) Any leads for a new one or used would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Chris

Chris,
Try calling Tom Slane.

Also try calling Minney's Yacht Salvage in Costa Mesa, Ca. They have several teak swimsteps, and their prices are awsome!

Good call on Slane Sky, I didn't think of them. I was kinda hoping that somebody wanted to part with fiberglass one for a 15'10" hull.

Slane may have a take off or he may have the original molds to make one for you.

For my 41C, I had Beachcomber Fiberglass in Lauderdale make one. They had the profile on file, fit and finish was excellent.

Why are Hatt swim platforms so narrow. I'd love to have another 12". Could I do that w/out changing the supports?

I called Tom Slane, very knowledgeable guy, was actually familar with my boat when the previous owner had it back to the factory for some upgrades in the late 90's. Tom sent me some photos of there fiberglass platform and it looks good. It is wider than my current teak one by about 6", which would be nice. He is a little pricey but I guess you get what you pay for. Now if I could just sell my teak platform???

Did you check on this web site under parts specials? They have one for sale.

Thanks, I did check Sam's first however if you look close the one they have is for a 54C which has a 17'10" (I think) beam, I have the 53C 15'10" beam

I had Tom Slane build me one last year to replace the teak one that originally came on my '72 model boat. Not the cheapest, but certainly the best. I even had him extend it a few inches in depth without changing the OE look and curves. I had him build new SS brackets for it as well. He even applied the paint and non-skid to match my boat. I highly recommend him. His work speaks for itself.

I first looked at Beachcomber's Hatteras platform because I used them to build new wing boards (where the "Hatteras" logo goes) for my boat. They do good work, but unfortunately Beachcomber's "Hatteras" platform is actually not the same as the original Hatteras one. The curves and slats are a bit different and I was going for the OE look. Only Tom Slane has the factory mold. Everything else is "almost".
