One last question....

On a recent docking....my captaining skills failed me as I backed my boat up into the slip I clipped a piling and squished in a part of my swim platform. the Platform is teak (unfinished) and I only barely squished it so 96% of platform is fine, but in one corner, the wood got crushed and basically broke inward, filling the small spaces that typically exist in btwn the pieces. is there an easy way to fix this...is the whole platform one piece of wood?

They are typically laid up in strips of teak. This will be easily repaired by your local shipwright, or anyone with basic wood working skills. It will require getting some teak stock cut to the proper dimensions then scarfing in and gluing up as necessary for the repair of the damaged area. Ask around the dock for a recommendation.

It's only EASY when you pay for someone else to do it, but it's not complicated. It is definitely time consuming. And you may find it difficult to make the bend depending on where its located. Likely clear grained teak soaked for a week in water and then bent in a jig will make a tighter curve. The best way is to remove the platform and bring it home if you attack it yourself.
