  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series III (1990 - present)
Ok, first question:
Does Hatteras fabricate their own swim platforms or sub them out? My 50 Bertram was all set up for fishing but my new (to me) 50 Hatt is going to be for family fun. The kids want a swim platform & I'm looking for a good one.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dave

Slane may even have some used take-offs.

Damn, you guys are good!
Ok, how about the winning powerball numbers for this coming friday? Never mind, I just used up my luck on a swim platform.........LOL

I'll report back when I get the price.

Hope you don't need the powerball numbers to buy that platform.

:D

I'll ditto Butler Marine; they typically have templates for almost any model of boat. I was considering putting a bigger platform on my boat and they knew exactly what was needed and the paint color to match. Their guy at the Miami show had a big binder with the specs of all kinds of different boats. A friend put a teak one on his GB and was very happy.

Occasionally, Jarrett Bay's surplus operation will have them (take offs from the yard) or can find them. So may Sailorman in Ft. Lauderdale. Anchor Bay East in Dundalk (Baltimore) can fabricate them at reasonable cost; I have seen one they did on a 53MY.

I had a platform built last year for my 55c. Beachcomber out of FL did an amazing job. They built the platform and the brackets and shipped it to California. put it on in the do it yourself part of the yard. Everything was 100 percent. They can build an exact Hatteras one or their own design. I went with the Hatt design.

Damn! The one Slane has is for a 50 Bertram.
Butler is right around $2800 & slane is $3500 to build one. Waiting to hear back from Beachcomber.

i'll vouch for butler. my first hat was a 66 34' sedan. to my amazement they said they had the template for it. fit like a glove when it came and nice workmanship.

I have a Beachcomber swim step that I bought and installed on my 46C, back in January 2001. At that time it cost me $2730.00.

I've had no problems with it, but........ The curvature of the stern side of the platform did not exactly match the curvature of my stern. They built it from their stock measurements for the Hatteras 46C. Not sure where they got their measurements. The mismatch resulted in the gap between the two being closer at the center of the platform and wider at the ends. Most people don't notice it, but I do!!

FWIW......

Ok, one less to consider.

This is quite a generous offer! I don't know what else to say other than "thank you". Even if this does not work out, I'd be very happy to help you out with anything in the future.

the repair to mine is not possible, so I have just priced these. Butler is about 30% less than slane. slane's is the exact hatteras mold though. I would rather save the $1500. butler is about 3k with brackets and slane is 4500.

I was at Sailorman on St Road 84 in Ft Lauderdale yesterday and they had at least 3 (the ones I looked over) beautiful swim platforms for sale. One may have been from a Hatt (no one was sure), the other two were new removed units from Riviera. Not only did they look good, they looked like brand new. One of them was aprox 11' 10" wide X 44 " deep and it had a built in foldable swim ladder under a lid. (beautiful job). It also has the metal (SS) holes for a railing system. The ASK price was $1,089.00! The other was almost the same width but was only about 34" deep and no boarding ladder. Cost was $890.00. Both platforms have the SS rub rail along the edges.

Now comes the potential problem..... be sure to check the curve of your transom, preferably with a cardboard template and do a match up. If they work, I'm sure you will fall in love with them as I have.

Good Luck.

Walt
