Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
I dont want to install a swim platform, I need a ladder for the stern utilizing the fishing door. Has anyone installed one, looking for one I can stow. I heard at the boat show in miami there was a portable platform that would latch on and remove when not in use. Any thoughts on this project. Thanks Gina Marie.

Check out Armstrong Nautical Products out of stuart, fl. they make excellent products...2 step, 3 step, and 4 step ladders. the mounting bracket is permanently mounted to the transom, and the ladder simply slides into it when you need it...otherwise, it comes with 2 storage brackets to mount it out of the way when underway. They also make a "break-away" bracket, which allows the ladder to hang parallel to the surface for those of us who forget to take the ladder off when we get going. otherwise, the ladder or the bracket breaks, GUARANTEED!

I put a 4-step armstrong on Gigabite a couple of years ago. Its the JAZZ!

If you dive or swim, its fabulous. Completely out of the way for fishing (it removes, leaving only a VERY SMALL bracket) but will hold 400lbs.

STRONGLY recommended - I love mine.

I have a Garelick with break away hinge which works fine but how do you get back on the boat if you fall overboard when you are by yourself and the ladder is not out??? I installed 3 permanent brass steps on the transom at the midpoint which is close enough to the door that it works great. I have a 1 1/4 inch grab bar centered above. I seldom use the Garelick even when scuba diving.

Genesis: Concerning Armstrong Ladders

Thanks you for the information, Genesis does the transom mount sit below the water line or above. Thanks Gina Marie.

Somewhat related - Is there a larger (front to back) swim platform available for a 53MY? It would be helpful to have a little more room when we dive since we do everything on the platform - suit up, gear up, remove gear, wash gear in a large container of Fresh water. It gets a bit crowded and we don't want to buy a YF just for scuba and we can't yet afford the 57 Nordhavn (and probably never will).:)

Above; it is NOT submerged.

Mike, I've been keeping an eye on those Nordhavn 57's as well just for fun. There is one on the market with an asking price UNDER $1M! They'll just keep depreciating while our classic Hatteras hold their value or even appreciate. Maybe their values will be similar in the future and we can decide whether to make the move or not at that time!

Hmm..good point. Maybe in a couple of years we can swap our 53MY for a 57 Nordhavn plus some cash from the Nordhavn owner!

YES! Cruising cash, I LIKE THAT!!! :D

What a bunch of dreamers :)

Aw come on now, Sky! Where would this world be without dreamers? Dreaming is BIG FUN and besides, it inspires motivation! Even so, I don't think we're THAT far away from reality with this "dream". Consider this: The Nordhavn's we're referring to are still fairly new boats, with that one 2000 model already under $1M. Those boats are still on the top of the depreciation bell-curve and who knows where or when they will bottom out. Our classic Hatteras have already bottomed out and the nice boats are now even appreciating a bit. Who knows what the future will bring. DREAM ON!!
