I'm new to sending parts within the US. Are any of the courier companies less expensive to ship than the others (UPS, USPS, Purolator)? I am looking at shipping 3 Perko strainers (about 30 lbs.) from Fort Lauderdale to New Jersey. Sorry if it sounds like a lame question but may of you have much more experience than I in shipping costs. Timing is not a concern, just cost.

I usually take my stuff to any UPS Store. They package it up real nice, insure it and ship it. They can also offer the price between the different vendors.

I don't worry about finding a box or making my own packing-padding using these stores.
Walk out with the tracking number on the receipt.

UPS ground is usually the cheapest. I don’t use the post office anymore, it maybe cheaper but service is … well what can expect for something government run.

From where I am, FedEx ground is almost always cheapest. I like the local service from UPS better, but I almost always save money using FedEx

I use UPS however, the post office does have a flat rate. You buy their box/boxes and it’s one price for any weight. I think it’s called, if it fits it ships.

I'm a FedEx fan. A few times these last years, they have been dropped the ball. UPS has always preformed, in and out bound.

USPS when CHEAP is the only option. Mostly international for me but takes forever (slowest boat on the seas).

I remember the days when Air-Borne and Purolator companies worked the states.
Now like DHF, mostly international.

The pack & ship shops are great. They ask when you want it there and give you the prices from there.

Of course, Greyhound still moves packages. Probably cheaper than USPS (in the 48) but someone has to pick it up at the bus station.
They did offer delivery in the past. But then, you have to make the package up.

All of them hire gorillas to handle your package. That's why I let the shop package the stuff and I buy insurance.

That insurance has worked well a few times.
