My slip has a 50 amp connection and a 30 amp connection. I am using a 50amp-30amp adapter at the post. When I run the stove on the 50 amp line (line 1) it draws 10amps but if I run it on the 30 amp line (line 2) it draws 20 amps. What gives? In both cases it is sending 220 volts to the stove. Is it the adapter causing the problem? Is it really a 110 line and there is a transformer on the boat bumping it to 220 volt?

Any help would be appreciated. i anticipate needing some space heaters on the boat this winter and am trying to figure out how to set up my electrical panel.

I thought 30 amp was 110v, and it took two of them to get 220v.

Your 120v 30 amp side is running through an isolation transformer that is making the 240v for you.

The 30 amp/120v side only gives you 15 amps of 240v power. Your ammeter is showing the input amp draw to the transformer on the 120v line, therefore, it will show double the amperage for any 240v load. If you had an ammeter after the transformer, it would show the same as the other cord.

volts x amps = watts. Its using the same watts on both.

So, are you saying it is okay if my ammeter is reading up to 60 amps on the 30 amp line? or will it blow the breaker anyway?

Does the isolation transformer somehow know when it is only getting 120v? and then bumps it to 240v?

I did not realize the 30 amp outlets at marinas were only 120v.

Thanks for your help.

You cannot draw 60 amps. Only 30 amps at 120v or 15 amps at 240v.
