  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I had top clean the vinyl on the helm seats with bleach to kill mildew...it left them terribly sticky. Is there anything I can do to make them not sticky?

It could be that the plastic/vinyl is breaking down. The sun does this and the bleach may have set it off. My line strap/holders have started to blister and have gotten sticky. Pascal's large round fenders have done the same thing. My large Solas throw rings...same thing...anything with a plastic base that sits in the sun will eventually break down. If additional cleaning doesn't get the sticky off, you may be in for new covers for the seats.

Yeah, the soap and bleach took out some of the plasticizers...but I've heard of a prop duct that gets rid of the stickiness...I just cant remember what it's called.

Try Mop 'n Glow. Works for us, post cleaning, on the shore cords and other miscellaneous items.

Mop & Glow... I used to really like that product, made my floors look great. Until one time I needed to get my floors stripped....wow....unbelievable amount of residue came off that floor. The guy I hired to do it actually quit because there was just too much. When I saw what he was complaining about I couldn't believe it. Sadly, I don't use it anymore.

I could certainly see that happening if used regularly on a floor. But this is an every-once -in-a-long-while type thing we are taking about here. Happens to solve the problem, too.

What about a solvent (alcohol, laquer thinner, mineral spirits) used conservatively? I know that's how we get our fenders looking like new.

Try leather and vynil dressing, same stuff you use in the car. Have had that problem before and the dressing cures it and makes the seats more pliable , adds moisture to them, they wont fall apart as fast. Use a lot of it , it soaks in and makes the vynil, or leather softer and more pliable.
