Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Does anyone know what model or cylinder capacity of the original rudder steering ram on a 1965 41' convertible? Trying to spec an autopilot system and there are no numbers on mine that are readable. I manually ran fluid through the ram and got 210cc's of fluid. That seems too low, but it is not that big of a clyinder. I know that the resovoir is a hyanautic and looks to be original.

Thank you

If its the same as mine its 1.5" bore X 9" stroke with .75" dia. rod.
It is a balanced cylinder. It works out to about 12 Cu. in displacement.
Mine is indeed a Hynautic with the two hex tie rods. When I put my Comnav in I got the larger pump but dont think I need it.

Cna't help with the specific question but if you have the original Hatt docs for your boat, the steering ram model/capacity is listed in the equipment section, along with the engines/trannies/various pumps, and everything else that was installed on the boat.

If you don't have the docs, copies of all the oem papers that came with the boat can be obtained from Hatt for around 75 bucks - you give them the hull number and they'll send you a binder with the data. Best 75 bucks you'll ever spend - it will show specifically what the boat left the factory with as well as the pertinent blueprints and wiring diagrams.

Thank you,

I have some of the original docs and the only thing it says is that it came with a positive hydraulic steering system. 12 cubic inches seems to be about right on this from my calculations as well.
