  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
I have a 1979 53’ Hatteras Sportfisherman and the upper steering ram (what connects to the wheel) needs new seal. The steering box is original. I want to confirm the make; is it hynautic?

Should be Hynautic, that's what Hatteras used except for some very very early boats.

The "ram" is connected to the rudder tiller arm, the "helm" is what the wheel mounts on at the console.
The helm model number should start with an H.

Best is the pull the helm pump out and get it on a table. If you can inspect it while in place for leak location that will help, but when you pull it apart you will likely want to replace all the seals in it anyways. Seal kits are readily available.
