I was robbed last sat. night of $980.00 worth of diesel fuel . Does anyone know who sells locking caps? I can find them for gas caps but not diesel. Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Wow! I never thought about someone stealing fuel from the boat. Something to consider since I put 1500 gallons in today. How could someone drain your tanks without someone seeing them?

I probably wouldn't miss a couple hundred gallons and would assume my gauge was malfunctioning. It would take a refuel to assure the gauge was correct.

It probably happens more than we realize.

Unless someone set up a system to specifically do this it would take quite a bit of TIME.

Sounds like with the price of fuel some people have made the "investment" in fuel-stealing rigs; that Vetus gizmo looks to be a good and inexpensive countermeasure.

How would you ever prove that you had say $5K of fuel stolen to an insurance carrier?

The point may be academic since most of our deductibles are higher than that.

I agree that our deductible would make it a mute point - but I also think you'd need a tanker truck or barge to transfer 1,000+ gallons of fuel. And someone probably WOULD notice that. Kind of hard to sneak in with something that big!

Not to mention the time it would take.

I bought a set of stainless steel TankLock caps years ago when diesel fuel hit $4. They fit my 53MY perfectly and work great. See them here. Measure your filler neck, I can't remember which size fits, but one of them does.

Thanks to you all. I have ordered the vetus things and the custom locks. Keep your fuel safe .Thanks Again
