I found this story really surprising. I am at my yacht club tonight and had a glass of wine with my broker up here whom I have known for over 10 years. He used to work at Alden yachts selling power boats and is now at the Hatteras dealer up here. He told me that 4 years ago Alden delivered (he handled the sale) a new custom Alden 56 aft cabin motor yacht for $ 1.65 Million. After 4 years the seller, a Wall Street type, was done with the boat. The Brakenhoff firm in Newport boat the boat for one of its clients of $550 k. An incredible loss of $1.1 million on a 56 foot boat during a four year period.
My broker who sold the boat new, saw her recently and said there was nothing wrong with the boat. This is really scary to here of these type of sales.
