Hello - can anyone please advise the starting amps for my 24v system twin 6V92TA motors. I am rejigging my battery system and am wondering if two 120 amp hour 12v AGM's in series (i.e. 24v @ 120a/h) would do the job per side. My aim is to have an engine battery bank for each engine and say a 360 - 48- a/h house bank. Thanks for your help - I love this forum. Regards, Bill.

A pair of AGMs would almost certainly be able to deliver the starting current required. AGMs have extremely low internal resistance and thus deliver prodigious current, and in series the amperage comes down.

HOWEVER - you have less reserve (e.g. ability to crank for a good long time) if required. Keep that in mind.....

I don't remember the DD requirements for cranking amps offhand for the 24V system but will see if I can find them in my shop manuals. When I played with this on my boat a SINGLE 12V AGM starting battery was easily able to roll over my 12V 6V92s (I contemplated the same sort of thing you are doing here, intending to use two in parallel instead of series as I had a 12V system) but I decided against it until the need to replace the primary cables came (a day that didn't come during the time I owned the boat.)

I had a similar experience, as my 12V 565 hp 6V92s rolled easlily with one 12V 8D AGM per side.
