For those that haven't had the pleasure of replacing a Delco 50MT, a few tips... the 12 point bolts are very, very difficult to access. It is theoretically possible to remove it without removing the exhaust manifold, I couldn't do it. The bolts were originally torqued by Thor!. 1200fp impact hammer wouldn't get one of them. Using a 3 foot cheater bar on a 3/8 breaker bar and low profile 9/16 impact socket finally got it. My ER has a overhead winch, and I wouldn't try this without something to support the starter weight.. something around 100 lbs. This was the ccr starter and the new one was a boat buck with shipping.

Did you consider rebuilding it? Has to be cheaper.

I'll have it rebuilt and keep it as a spare. It needs a new bendix and drive gear.

I have two 32v for a 92 series, one CW and one CCW that I bought from this site. They are used working take outs. Make me an offer if you need one (or both).

Thanks Sky, I already have the replacement on hand. Got it from a Battery and Starter place in Ft Lauderdale, East Coast Battery and Electric. Real old school place. They even clocked the nosepiece for me. Toughest 3 bolt, 2 wire job I've done in a while.

Good progress today! New starter installed! Then put the manifold back on, and put a fork in it!
