I am hauling out next month and am planning to repair my rubrail, and an ever growing list of other things. It was banged up in Katrina and I may have put a scratch or 20 on it myself. I plan to sand out with DA 180-220-320-600W-1000W-1500W then 3000W trizact pad then polish with flitz and then use collenites wax. The lower grits will only be used on the bad spots. Does this sound like the correct process?

Thanks!

We polished our aluminum rub rail. There were many deep scratches that we used 80 on (ours was in a pretty sad state when we got her). The finest paper used was 1200 (by hand - straightline sanding to remove the small orbital marks). I will be honest and tell you it took us forever to do this, but I am really pleased with the end result.

Good Luck!
