- 43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Went aboard a very pretty 80-90's SeaRay, 37' MY with flybridge over the weekend in N. MI. This was late in the day and they had earlier come in from a run up Lk MI in dusty conditions (I'm guessing 3-5's). The boat's captain and and Admiral were aboard we were talking a little boat trash. Although I am 'an old, slow vintage', 'I have a Hatteras' always gets a good response.
The boats Admiral says, she would really like a Trawler, but really likes the Hatts, because you have all the 'height up there at the bow' (freeboard). I got to looking and that SR37 only had about 4' of freeboard, whereas the 43/DCFB has 6'10" (official). I will bet they were stuffing the bow constantly out in those Lk MI seas.
Later, I took a tour and it was very pretty with blond wood, curvy fiberglass, et al. The Admiral then says, watch out for the 'wet carpets, because a lot of water came aboard, when we were out there"...yikes!
So I'll keep the 36K #'s Hatt vs. the 18k #'s pretty SR. I like my seas staying outside flying...!
