  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' LRC (1975 - 1981)
We had a nerve wrecking day yesterday, as Kismet was hauled for the first time in 18 months. Brand new (to them) lift at the marina - and Kismet was the first to get hauled out. TravelLift is a 75 Ton and can haul out up to 20' beam (I believe). Yes, their insurance was paid up! :)

I couldn't stand to be there - so had them call me a few times during the day.

It went off without a hitch and I understand Chesapeake Magazine was there to take a few pictures and write an article. Deltaville Marina and Boatyard are good folks. They know their business and treat their customers well.

Hull looked very good. No blisters, bubbles, etc. A couple of strainers had more growth than we expected, so we'll be checking the bonding connections.
She's due for a good hull cleaning, new zincs, 2 coats of Trinidad, install of Underwater LED's and maybe a new Transducer for future use. She'll be splashed again in two weeks (right after Hatteras Owners School).

This is only the second time I've seen her out of the water. There's a LOT of boat below the waterline!! :)

There's a lot of boat ABOVE the waterline, too. She looks great. Anyone who hasn't seen this boat and gotten the tour ought to ask him, if they have the time and opportunity. It's pretty impressive. If Hatteras had built an ocean liner, it might have looked something like that.

As far as nerve-wracking haulouts go, when I see you, remind me to tell you the story about Blue Note going over the Choptank River Bridge on the back of a trailer..I couldn't look either.

It's always a little unnerving seeing your boat in the sling.

Those LRC's look even better out of the water than in....pretty!!!!

Cheryl,
Why are they taking it out? It looks like they just painted it ;)

Jim, That looks like the launch photo from some time back. I think that's Mike walking along side.

Jim- that was taken when we first splashed. Going to haul this spring and see about bottom paint and zincs, may need some shaft log packing on one side, I forget which one (have to check records). Paint isn't that terribly old thank GOODNESS! She's coming together.

Cheryl

Good for you. My bottom paint has lasted another season and doesn't need to be repainted yet, which is amazing (SeaHawk) They are just going to mask the boot stripe and repaint the top five or six inches which gets discolored by growth at the waterline. And the exhaust pipes.

Someone asked me what the product is that they spray on the wheels and shafts to reduce fouling. It is a zinc spray made by Pettit. Seems to work fine. The cans are heavy. It is mostly metal I think.

Thanks Jim.
If anyone is ever in the Deltaville area, you're welcome to come by for a beer/tour of Kismet. OK, maybe 2-3 beers. :)

We probably could have gone another 6-12 months without painting, but she was being hauled anyway, so we're decided to go ahead. We continue to take good care of her, which as we all know, isn't cheap. But she deserves it.

Kismet has an annoying list to starboard issue that we haven't quite figured out. It's about 2 degrees and enough be a problem with growth/splash on that side. Interestingly, most of last year she floated perfectly level. Before adding lead to the port side, we're going thru the process of elimination:
- water tanks are empty (they were full most of last year)
- fuel tanks are full
- dinghy is off (which could be the issue, since it was on most of last year)
- no structural changes or "stuff" added/removed last year.
- dock lines "could" be the issue, but we don't think so....

If anyone has any "Ah Ha's" they'd like to share, I'm all ears. I'm sure it's something simple like the dinghy, but we definitely need to figure it out.

You might try adding weight (people) to the port side and seeing how much weight it takes to correct the list. That might give you some idea of how heavy whatever it is that is causing the list may be....

Appreciate the invitation. Should I bring Arielle along so she can drink your crew under the table again? She's the beer drinker in the family...

haha.....funny you should mention that! The boys were asking me last night when the next cruise would occur. I said, "soon, but you're going to have to be a little hold back on the beers the night before cast off!"

Good times....we look forward to more!
