Spotlight

On my 1985 36 convertible I have, what I am told, is a spotlight control which consists of a small joystick mounted vetically above a three way switch which is above a rheostat type knob. The spotlight itself is long gone. I'd like to add a spotlight back to the boat. Are there specific present day spotlights and, if so available wiring diagrams, to connect to this control or would I probably be wiser to just go with a new light and the control bundled with it? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

New light, new control. If you buy a new light it should come with the new control for it.

What you have sounds like an old Jabsco control. There is a market for that old control, however, since they are no longer made and the company with all of the remaining parts charges an arm and a leg. Pull out the control and post it in the parts section. I'm sure it would sell.

Skycheny is correct. The new light will come with a control and the control is a little different. However if someone has an old light that is functional but a bad control they can use the new style control on it. The plugs are a little different but the color coding on the wires is the same. Cut off the plugs, some solder and heat shrink and you are in business. I don't remember exactly what the cost of the new control was but it wasn't expensive. The new control doesn't have the rheostat which controlled the speed of the light not the brightness but the light doesn't move very fast anyway.
