I didn't want to take the other thread off track, but check out the galley refit on this 58TC.

No, it's not mine (I wish), but this is what I have in mind. In fact, I'm thinking of going with a lighter veneer throughout the boat. This boat was on the market at the same time I bought my 58TC but was about 3x the price. I wish I had saved more info on this particular boat to get some ideas of how to refurb mine. Any chance that any of you recognize this boat?

Here's a shot of the salon.

I really like the glass shelf above the stove!! Plus the cutout aft of the dinette. The only drawback is the door to the ER. I really need that flip up hatch there also to fit my lard ass into the dungeon. If I were gonna pull the overhead cabinets in the front of the salon, I still think I'd shoot some windows in there! birdroppings ;-))

Gotta tell you, I like the refits Except for the light veneer in the galley.

IMHO, there is nothing like the beauty of polished afromosia.

Just had to do it didn't you? LOL

Jim, to each his own, but the lighter wood sure does open these old boats up. I boarded a 70CPMY at FLIBS a couple of years ago with lighter wood, and it felt twice as big as the one we took down from Charleston that had the darker wood.

What I don't particularly care for on that particular boat in the pics I posted is the combination of lighter wood in the galley with the original afromosia in the salon. IMO it's an all or nothing proposition.

Oh yeah Bill, what makes you think you couldn't still access the ER from the galley with that refit? Looks like they just replaced the steps and put a door behind them that would still allow access.

Geographically, the stairs are ABOUT the same location, but then theres a door to negotiate, plus mine has a hinged hatch on the top to open up. I can stand up just inside on the ER sole. ws

The purple is kewl dude. Is it obama's boat? Is that the look you are going for Bill?

That ain't no purple dude. It IS a most unmanly fuschia though.

Purple, fuscia it is all the same. Real mens boats have mauve!

... and TAUPE. They compliment each other! ws

No offense, but what good does it do to stand up when you're only a foot into your ER and the other hatches are still closed?

Oh yeah, as for the cool pics Bill posted, those are (were) of my boat. Bill looked at it before I did, but he decided he wanted more of a challenge. :) Now you know why I didn't make a lot of before pictures as I never want to see those hideous colors again.

That was teal wallpaper on the cabinets and walls (even the face of the dishwasher), and mauve Formica was used to cover the cabinet doors counter tops, and drawer facings. Even the dinette table was covered with mauve Formica. I stripped all of it off and ditched the curtains. I'm a little mad though, I think the PO kept that custom painted saw above the dinette.

Its still just a bit less to crawl in to. Once in there, duck down to one knee and then pretend yer one of obamalamadamas secret service monkeys!
BTW... I remember that saw too. Looked terrible. Shouldve been hung on a wood boat! ws
