Gayle and I hope to spend ten+/- days cruising from Port St. Lucie to Biscaye Bay starting about January 8. We expect to stop at New River (Cooleys) and Boca Chita for a day or two. Other suggestions? Cultural events? Anything Hatteras going on in the area at that time?

Two or three years ago we were having Christmas dinner at Charlie's Crab on the Intercoastal in Ft Lauderdale and you guys cruised past southbound.

If you're snorkelers or scuba divers and you get a calm day, a great one day trip is 25 miles from the bottom entrance to Biscayne Bay is to go grab a free gov't. mooring ball at John Pennekamp Coral Reef near the south end of Key Largo. It's a very nice reef with lots of colorful fish, big barracudas, etc. Mooring balls are right at the reef in 10 ft of water (just watch the charts going in. We also stayed overnight at Pennekamp State Park but they only have 2 big boat slips so call ahead.

I'd stop overnight at marine stadium off downtown, view is great then also spend a day (weekday not week end) at No name harbor on Key Biscayne You can walk to Cranston beach and the park is nice (trails etc)

Boca Chita is a good stop, hard to find room on weekends though
