My 25 year old flasher depth sounder (using a 43 year old transducer) has finally died. My 13 year old GPS died about 3 years ago. My 25 year old Loran and my 13 year old Interphase forward scanning sonar are both working as good as they ever did. Oh, my 25 year old Chartkit Yeoman is also in fine form.
It's about time to replace the dead flasher and GPS. The 41 DCMY does not have an abundance of space at the helm for electronics. So, I thought a new combo unit might be in order. I don't fish much (at least not successfully) so avoidance of excessively thin water is my primary goal.
When I bought the Interphase the pitch about seeing what's ahead was compelling. However, I have found the reality to be disappointing on that score. I mostly just see my bow wave. For the same reasons I was taken in by the claims made for the Interphase unit, I find the 3D and side-scan pitch for the Hummingbird units interesting.
I would be interested to hear the experiences and opinions of you other old Hatteras owners regarding performance of the Hummingbird equipment as well as other Sonar/GPS units. The experiences and opinions of owner's of other old Hatteras are also welcome.
