  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
38' DOUBLE CABIN (1967 - 1971)
In this video a guy and his wife tackle leaks in a cooling skeg on a boat he's building with a series of tests and reworks. The video was chosen more or less at random - there's a ton of other ones to watch. Check out one of the bronze casting videos, for instance. I enjoy his dry sense of humor and humility in the face of this monumental job as he builds a HUGE steel boat. The next time you think you work too hard on your boat, watch this.

That kid is going to have his Master's degree before that thing floats.

Interesting stuff. It's good to see that there's somebody out there much crazier than me.

Gets free flux core wire too... Oh, and grinding wheels. ws

Oh man... brought back some "memories" of chasing down leaks on the keel cooler of my aluminum boat last summer, except wasn't doing it myself. Weeks and weeks of welder(s) at $90/hour. Should have just went and bought a TIG welder and done it myself (I will some day), but below the waterline isn't a good place for a rookie to start!

Videos like this are great. Thanks for sharing!

Well, I've spent several hours watching these videos now. I wonder if they have a plan to get her to water since she is being built in Oklahoma?

I don't know, but I would bet it will involve using some piece of modified Harbor Freight equipment.

I would not bet against this guy. He seems capable of anything.

As to how he'll launch her: he'll rent a backhoe and dig a trench to the nearest ocean. Never mind that it's a couple thousand miles. Nothing will stop this guy.

Either that, or he'll park it in the back yard and wait for it to rain for forty days and nights.
