I’m finally at a point where I want to clean up the power inlet to my 53my. I’m thinking of going with the smart plug design and using the breakers they offer to match. It’s about a 3k upgrade to the original with the fuses. I question if the smart plug design is still a viable option. I don’t see a lot of boats that have made the switch. I don’t want to spend the time and money if the technology is on the downturn. Any thoughts. I’d me happy with just switching out the fuses for breakers. But at that point I would just add the plugs so all matches and looks cohesive

I switched out the shotgun fuses for circuit breakers as well as switched over to smart plugs 5 or so years ago on my 43DC. I love the smart plug design, it is so much more robust then the NEMA style plugs. The quality of the receptacles and plugs is top notch. Not that I would do this, but I'm pretty sure I could stand on the smart plug when placed in receptacle and it would not budge. I also added a galvanic isolator while I was in there.

I did a half measure, and went to smart plugs. I left the fuses, since the goal of reduced/cool temperatures at high amp loads was accomplished. The #2 source cord is smart plug on an older cord, and it is cooler than a brand new NEMA cord with the same load. That is on the #1 when needed. Smart plug gets an A+ from me, and we have blown a shotgun fuse in the past on a nema plug.
