  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' MOTOR YACHT (1987 - 1989)
I now live aboard and the shower is used more (obvoiusly). It drains SLOWLY. (I think it's what's left of my balding hairline.) Draino is a no-no. What to use?

shop vac, pull through the drain

Check the inlet strainer in the sump. ws

Mine wouldn't drain at all when I got her. If you're set up similarly, it is about the easiest fix in the world. My shower has a straight pipe that dumps into a fiberglassed compartment just forward of, and to the centerline from the shower. I removed the strainer, poked a coat hanger into the hole, and "whoosh", all the water drained into the compartment.

Hint: Test the bilge (sump) pump and float switch that is in the compartment BEFORE trying the above solution. On mine, it didn't work, and replacing it would have been far less distasteful without several gallons of gray water sharing the hole with the pump and float switch.

check the strainer in the shower sump if you have one... size vary... rule has some with larger striners 1 1/2 ", others like 3/4".. the small one needs cleaning every 3 to 4 weeks of daily use, more often if your wife, daughter, gf... has long hair !

it also doens't take much hair on the drain itself to reduce flow.

and obviosuy check the float swith on the sump...
