This morning the boat had no water at any of the faucets, or showers. I checked the shore connection, and there was very good pressure, and flow there. Has anyone every experienced a pressure reduction valve going out, or just getting clogged up? I guess it could also be the back flow preventer. Any comments would be appreciated.

I seldom use my shore water connection because if it fails it can sink my boat. But a few years ago I was rebuilding my water pumps, and rather than go without water I switched to the shore hook-up. I liked the increase in pressure I got in the shower, right up 'till the reduction valve failed and put full shore pressure, about 100 psi, into the boat. Blew every connector off all my faucets. I remember particularly the scalding water coming out around my sink before I finally figured out I better shut it off at the dock. Just wish I'd remembered my towel!

Living onboard years back, I purchase a normally closed solenoid 12-32 or 120 and toggle swicth located it on the control console. I fill the boat's potable water tank and when it overflows off the toggle and I have a full tank. this is much safer than a reducing reg. that flows constant pressure to the boat. James.

Solenoid are either Normally close or Normally open defends on how you want to apply it.
