  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Has anyone found a source of good value 50 feet shore power cords

Stay away from the “value” cords especially the new Eel types. I fell for it a few years ago and after just a couple of years the cable was all faded. I went back to the good stuff: quality raw cable from Wards Electric in FTL and inspectable/serviceable connectors.

What Sky said. Either bulk cable and install your own ends, or stick with quality OEM. I have had good luck with both Marinco and Hubbell. If you buy cable, buy marine cable, not HD or Lowe's.

Marinco cord sets are not tinned.

That Marinco Eel was so bad that I didn’t revenge bother keeping it as a spare. Went into the trash.. I don’t even think a sailboter would have wanted it :)

No cheap solutions. Get a good quality Hubbell and don't worry about price.

Saving $200 90-75is not worth loosing boat

I bet that cable was not in the dumpster for long.
Never under estimate the provisioning & shopping habits of snail-boaters.

I have yet to find a cheap 50a shorepower cable, unless you're a billionaire and it's one of those "everything's relative" type things. Marinco are the cheapest, but still not what you'd call cheap. Worse, really you want a 75' cord or else have 2 of them onboard to link together when necessary. I just went traveling for a few days and at a couple stops the pedestals were farther away than my 50' cord would reach. Thankfully people loaned me cords at both stops.

Contact the kids at Glendinning. I think molded cables to 100 feet are available.

Making up three wire cords is the way to go if you have isolation transformers. They are lighter and coil up easier.

Oh yea.
No need for 1/4 of the weight (cost?) if your not using the white wire.
Again, only if your using a L1-L2 only input to ships isolation transformer.
The ships transformer make their own white wire (neutral) lead.
Sadly, the same (expensive) 50A/240V plugs are required.
