Shaft Coupling Hatt 58?

Specs say she's a bank repo.

All depends on how it happened and what was the resulting damage. Listing only notes a coupling failure and the need for it to be repaired. No mention of boat being totaled. That's a lot of boat for the money but given she's at National, you need to move cautiously.

Anyone notice it has 720 HP 8v92TAB in it? Probably still using 2"shafts.

There always more to a repo story. If a owner is losing a vessel it's never a surprise, so good maintenance is likely not happening.

It's sad to hear someone lost their boat.

Guess that was really my question - is a shaft alone so much $$ that somoene would throw in the towel? That's how I was thinking it might have gone down. Yes, repo land is a deep dark forest. I'm sure this one has many aspects we may never know.

The flip side of the "no maintenance" coin is that there possibly also was little use/abuse leading up to the repo. My last boat was a repo, Catalina42, which I got for $.60 on the dollar. Although dirty she was not abused and cleaned up nicely. I put 30K in, (and a lot of hours) to bring here in top shape, sailed her 6000NM in 4 years, sold her and got my money back. I would do it again. But, if you get a bad boat the numbers will roll differently. And, as a last thought on that, with a sailboat there's a lot more to see, the only unknown being the auxiliary engine which, worst case, would have cost me 10K to rebuild. A pair of DD's is of course a different story, which is why I am MUCH more hesitant to get into a project with a Hatt.

We've seen far worse looking boats on here. Evidently it is local. I would be willing to drive and look at it if someone is seriously discussing it with the sellers.

I wish they were parting it out. :) I'd like to have some stuff off of it - spray rails and radar arch.

Parting it out?😲

That's going to make a great cruising boat some resourceful, hard working, crazy, boat loving, I need a bigger boat skipper! (Sound like someone you know?)

A friend just bought a 55' Hatt convertible out of the same yard. If the listing is 95k she could probably be yours for 80k+/-
