I can't seem to remove this turbo from the exhaust elbow. Any suggestions, I've hit it twice with PB Blaster. Thinking about prying with a pry bar but do not want to damage the turbo. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm no expert on this and I know the metal can be brittle....often a length of wood can be tapped/hit with a hammer and cushions the blow enough to prevent damage..a rubber mallet might also work....see if anyone screams about my suggestions before trying!!!!!

A nice rubberized dead-blow hammer is a VERY good friend!

I had a very difficult one a couple of years ago. I used several cans of PB on it for over a week with no luck. I ended up using heat. With that said be VERY careful with this procedure, any oil, PB, or other release agent you have already tried has to be completely cleaned off. It took quite a bit of heat, make sure its even, and that tap it with a dead blow hammer and off it will come.

Use the heaviest 4x4 or 6x6 and whack away. Is the elbow in excellent shape inside? Most are not. If it is so so, break it out with a sledge. I usually break the elbow out and get a new one from JT.

After all you have tried, heat from an acteylene torch is the only reasonable solution and be careful doing it.Make sure you use a heating tip,5lbs on the acetylene,10lbs on the oxy and have someone on fire watch to observe what you are doing.A couple of deadblows and off it will come,as fore mentioned. Whacking the hell out of the elbow may deform it,if it was any good to begin with and you just might break a piece of the cast iron casting on the turbo. It would then be good for nothing including a core.

PB plus heat does wonders for me--just watch out for the flames from the PB.
