Well the Sentry 32 volt battery charge made the cooking sound with a little smoke today, at least I was in the engine room and caught it. I guess it's toast. Does anyone have a used 32 volt charger for sale, for a temp fix, until I decide what to replace it with.

Thanks,

They are field serviceable. Give Danny Martin of Martin Marine 910-799-9362 or Bert Ferebee 252-670-1009 a call.

George,

Thanks for POC. I had Bert stop by this afternoon, and the my Sentry 32 volt charger is dead. (42 years of faithfull service on the SeaWhisperer) The selector switch on the charger was replaced and the transformer smoke even more! So I guess I'll start looking at a replacement charger/inverter

Coments welcome... I've read the threads here on Outback and few others. Researching prices Sentry wants around $1800 / Outback around $1815.00 / still looking. If anyone has contacts or has seen sales... let me know... Right now I'm leaning towards a charger / inverter.

Thanks,

I just did a large inverter project with Victron but I am not sure they make a 32 volt. I know they have 12,24 and 48. PM me if you would like me to call my buddy there. I can see what he can do.

MikeP on this forum installed a 32v Outback and it has worked out quite well. PM him if you need more info. Evidently they are quite reliable and perform well.

If Burt red-tagged it, it surely must be toast; he saved mine from getting float tested and really knows his stuff. Like you said, 42 years ain't bad.

A lot of people like the Outbacks and they look like a quality unit; I strongly considered them when setting up my independent 24v system. The issue becomes charging the other bank. As I recall Sky Cheney has an outback on one bank and an Analytic on the other. Mike P tied his two banks together into one big bank, but that makes me a little nervous (especially since we like to anchor out in remote places when cruising). There is at least one other poster on the forum here that uses one of the relatively inexpensive Quick Charge single bank units.

I have a new one en route now. It’s from MDS Power, Inc. (it’s the Analytic charger, but Major stamps their name on it - still uses all the same model numbers, brochures, marketing stuff, photos, instructions, etc. as Analytic, though) I got it for $1,000 plus $32 in shipping. It is a BCA1000-220-32 (2-bank Battery charger; input 220VAC @ 7.3 amps, 45-65 Hz). That price also includes the RCPI-BCH Remote Control Panel and a 20' cable. I did not get the digital display since the charger is located somewhere that is not viewable without crawling into the hole. But, I do have the remote unit. This charger will charge a variety of batteries, not just the flooded lead ones. It has 2 and 3 stage charging (user chooses what he wants to use) and knows when to shut off completely.

Ironcially, it was the Charles rep at the Miami boat show who pointed me in that direction - he actually found a link for that particular charger and emailed it to me after the show. Charles didn't have a "smart" charger in 32v. - at least not one smart enough for what I wanted it to do. When I saw the link that Sky posted on another thread, pointing to the Analytic charger with the same model number, I knew either Analytic made Major or Major made Analytic - it's the same beast - and costs less. I did have to wait a couple of weeks for them to make it, but it's in shipment now.

Post how you like it once it's installed and up and running. 32vdc charging equipment has been a continued interest on this forum, as it is not nearly as easy to obtain as the 12 and 24vdc stuff.

Mike, we also have the 32V Outback and have been very pleased with it. We used only the inverter until two months when I had the wiring changed to use the charger. Do suggest getting the Mate if you go with this brand. On a side bar, I need to get with you about the anchor.
Regards,

Bump!! Sent you a pm

There are at least 4 Analytics in our marina. I have one, Airpilot has one on his 60C, Baldeagle has one on his 53ED, and another guy has one on his 60MY.

IMO, they work great. Two of us have the digital readout which I like. I would suggest using the 2-stage charge profile as one guy had trouble with boiling his batts on the 3-stage setting.

Mike,
Try calling Slane Marine. Tom may have a used one sitting around. I'm pretty sure the 53C they just refit was converted to 12V or 24V. That would get you going until you get the inverter system installed and running.
