I am considering replacing a 30 year old Crusair air conditioning unit with a self contained unit. Any help and advice concerning location and size of the unit would be appreciated. My major concern is the location of the unit. Thank you in advance for sharing your experience.

Folks on the forum have mixed thoughts on the issue. I recently replaced 2 of my split systems with 2 self contained units. All these boats are different, but on mine, they were easy swaps. The air handler compartment had a power and thermostat terminal block box. So running power to the self contained unit, and back to the pump relay was very easy. One of my swaps, the air handler was under a bunk, over the generator room, and I ran the new 5/8 water lines the same routing as the original freon lines, hooking to the old water manifolds. The Salon unit had a large air handler space, and the new self contained unit fit nicely there... One unit is a 12k Webasto, the other is a 24k Marinaire. Both are quiet and cool well, but the Marinaire is an exceptionally quiet unit.
