  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
The stbd engine, 671ti shut down and changing the Racor element and bleeding the air ine the line got it running. However I had to loosen the secondary filter nut to release the air, as I could not get the vent plug free. I put as much force as I dared with a 1/4" Allen wrench. I woder if paint is the cause.

Suggestions on how to get the plug free?

Thanks

I think I would just buy the filter bases for spin-on secondaries and throw those away.

Actually, I may still have my old OEM canisters. Let me know if need one.

Sky,
Thanks, I agree that spin on filters are better and appreciate your offer, but changing out filter housing sounds like one more project added to what is now a too long list.

If I cannot remove the vent plug, I will probably live with loosening the housing.

So many boat projects, so little time.

I bought my new secondary bases and filters from Jesse at Covington during the Hatteras School at Jarrett Bay. I sat on them for a year before finally getting around to changing them out. Once I did it, I wondered why I waited so long. The job was much easier than anticipated.
