  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Ooops! Coming back from a beautiful weekend Sunday afternoon. Going thru a channel that I had used probably 20 times before. THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. Power to idle and trans to neutral, stirred up mud/coral in the wake. We checked for water coming in, there wasn't any, but a terrible vibration on both engines. We idled in the last 10 minutes to the slip.
The next morning we were already scheduled for a haul-out for a bottom job so upon lifting clear of the water I was relieved to see that I still had all 8 prop blades, but they were pretty mangled. Got them pulled and to the shop along with the port shaft because it was hard to turn. Starboard seems OK.

Finally got the report from the shop, the shaft was bent right on the tip so it is unrepairable and the port prop started to crack when they tried to coax it back to shape. Time for new shaft and prop. I located a shaft in Florida for $695 plus a bazillion dollars to ship it here to PR. Steve McPhearson found the prop for $1210 which is what I can get it thru Michigan Wheel myself.

I don't think I can beat the shaft price but hopefully someone can give me some other sources. This is a Michigan Wheel 24X24 Dyna?????something. Maybe even a used one that could be reconditioned. Any ideas?

Sorry - no help on new prop and shaft, but FYI...... Check your other shaft to make sure it isn't bent too, even though it turns OK. A simple check is to tape a sharpened dowel or stick to your rudder with the sharp end pointing exactly at the center of the end of the shaft. Then turn the shaft and watch the position of the stick versus the center of the shaft. If you can see any non-centered movement, it's bent. They are very hard to get right after they're bent once. I'd probably go with the new one.

I had posted the following some time ago. The problem is I really can't evaluate the condition of these two props other than they look fine? I broke my knee skiing so it will be a real issue getting them out of the basement unless I call a friend to carry them. Anyway, I'll sell the pair for $700.00 you have to pay shipping, packaging, and possible reconditioning. If you want a few pictures, send me a private E mail and I'll forward them. They are bigger than your present props but they may be able to be cut down.

Prior Post::::
I have a set of propellers, 4 blade, 24/28 laying around in the basement. They are made to fit a 1 3/4 shaft. These are old wheels, I think from a 1979 37C I had with DDC J/T 671N - 310HP. They look to be in good condition.
Thanks,
Tony D

Tony, I forgot to say these are 1 1/2 inch shaft. Thanks

I'll do the pencil check and hold my breath.

Find a copy of Boats & Harbors, which is published in Crossville, TN. It is a commercial marine advertising paper. There are quite a few prop and etc shops there, someonewill have what you need. Also try General Propeller in Miami, FL, and call Jarrett Bay Boatworks in NC.

There are a lot of props on e-bay, some new at a reasonable price. There are also prop bushings available from Stright-Mackay in Canada to bring the bore size down for roughly $55.00 ea Canadian if you wanted to go that route. I don't have any experience with bushings so can't make a recommendation one way or the other on them.

Thanks for the info everyone, I found one in Fla. thru my prop shop here. Now all I have to do is wait for the "slow express" to get it here. Aaah, the joys of living in the tropics. Well at least I didn't shovel any snow this year.

Micigan Dyna Quad is what can't read. I have 24x24 1.75 on a 43 Hatt
