  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
54' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1989 - 1992)
The Dometic PMA 1000 sea water pump (115 v )on our 54 ED MY failed. A replacement part is $600. A Koolair Pump PM 1000 -115 with the same specs and a little more GPM goes for $147 on ebay. Has anyone had any experience with Koolair pumps? Any thoughts or observations would be appreciated.

Never heard of them... but as know when a deal sim too good to be true it usually is!

I use March and only March... I've tried the cruisair labeled pumps with metal impeller and they don't last

Maybe I'll get shot down on this, but I don't buy anything with the Dometic name anymore. They, IMO, make junk. And $600 for that rig is robbery. Can you salvage the wet end off your motor?

Probably made over seas.

I believe that is a March AC-5C-MD and can be had for around $230. Tesco pumps is a pretty good source. There are others on eBay, Amazon and the internet in general. I use this pump on my 2 X 16,000 BTU Cruisair system. Never tried Koolair.

tesco is a lousy source. You can get same for $169 and no freight. Have name at office tomorrow if needed.

Thanks for the comments. The company is in NJ, but the pump may or may not be made there. They claim to have been in the "fluid handling industry" for 40 years. Seem to sell pumps for chemicals. Onward with more research.

Clarification please. Your pump is down or you pump motor is down?

Different deal. I've had good service from this motor which should be compatible with your wet end. Google the number, I saw one online yesterday.

Check Grainger. They have some good continuous duty pumps.

Thanks to all for your input

I was able to get parts for my March Pump. The magnet around the impeller had cracked and jammed. March was able to direct me to a Canadian Distributor and the part was $32.
Not too bad I thought..

Dometic doesn't make pumps; the one that fit on my 56 was a rebranded Oberdorfer. I recommend giving Depco pump a call about having the current unit rebuilt; they do a beautiful job, comes back basically a new pump.
Got tremendous service out of the metal impeller Oberdorfer by the way.

Re: sea water pump for HVACmanufacturer

I just replaced the AC pump on my 58MY last week.

Cruise Air want $2800.00. I found the same pump for $1800.00 from the actual manufacturer. Then I found an Oberdorfer with same specs for $1000.00. Then I realized that I only needed to replace the motor for $250.00. Then I remembered that the previous owner had some boxes of misc. parts under a birth, where I found a brand new pump still in the box.

A bad day turned into a great one in the course of an hour! At least I now know my options when it happens again.

I remember that YouTube episode! Sorry to be so late to the party on this post, but in my case I have March AC-5C-MD 230V Pumps in my generator room to run salon and galley/V-berth. I've had to replace the wet head assemblies, and had a snafu resulting in ordering a spare pump. I'm dealing with install options for the aft stateroom/midships stateroom now with a new self-contained unit similar to your install. Difference is I can't run hose from the engine room where I have unused thru-hulls, or if I can I haven't figured out where it would go yet. Alternative is to run the pump off same thru-hull as aft toilet which is still original GalleyMaid saltwater, with a t for the strainer/pump. Unit will be in the master closet, with a t ducting into midships (yes, person in midships will just have to live with our temperature choices ;)). But I went back and watched the AC install video again the other day. Thanks for posting them! I find them informative and helpful as well as fun, and hope to meet you guys for docktails one day.

I replaced the Oberdorfer pumps with March pumps for both A/C s systems in 2003 , magnetic drives, ceramic impellers , plastic housings. They have been running almost constantly since 2003 with no problems. This is in south Florida.

Starting to see more boats with mini splits installed you can buy one cheaper than a water pump and if you can hide unit on fly bridge why not?

I've been thinking that may be the way to go if the main salon AC bites the dust.
