Well, I just made a life decisions that will keep me occupied for well over a year. After just returning from a month duty in Saudi Arabia, I signed up for another six months in country, likely expanding to two years. There is some much clean up work to be done from the 1991 Iraq war. We may have kicked Iraq butt, all sides made a huge environmental mess. 11 Billion gallons of oil released to float up on the Saudi coast line, sand flats and tidal marshes; and trash, I have never seen so much war debris, even after 20 years........
My poor Hatteras will have to hit the "HARD" while I am gone. One more rockfish trip this week to deplete as much fuel as possible, then off to the yard for winterizing, wrapping and set up for long term storage.
I considered putting the boat up for sale, but did not have the time, and anyway, after 42 years of service, I have it running like new, all systems go, and quite frankly, I like the boat. Oh I would always like a larger one, but this one works well, it is paid for and sits nicely at the end of my dock in all wind and tide conditions.
My hope is with the money made in Saudi, I can afford some improvements when I get back like a new paint job, new winch, and electronics. I had posted earlier this year that with the new bottom job this summer, I was able to get 28.5 knots out of it, not bad for 42 years old.
The yard guarantees against freeze damage and says with the set up they plan, boat can easily set if 1 to years with out issue. My fingers are crossed.
The boats that I saw in the Marine in Saudi, were killers. So much money!!! Wish I could take mine with me, but I would have to dock it in the fisherman area with the commercial boats; not large or fancy enough for the marina.
Will be tracking this site while gone.... Merry Christmas All.
