uscg sector key west had been broadcasting a pan-pan about this for a few days until sunday night including instructions to report the vessel if seen but not approach it as they were considered armed and dangerous

amazing that they made thru without being caught
 
The local news stations up here keeps saying "The government is concerned about the safety of the children."
I don't see this as an issue if the parents went thru so much to get them..... (again. as illegal as it was.... ) I kinda think of it as something "Capt Jack Sparrow" would do...
 
This guy sounds like a wingnut. I suspect the Cubans will be begging the USA to take them back before long. And if he thinks the US government is tough on him, wait til he has to deal with the Cuban government.

Evidently this fellow is a libertarian who hates authority and religion. This ought to be interesting. There's plenty of both in Cuba, and the fact that he's a pothead won't help.

In the USA, these folks are not considered the childrens' parents any longer. I think the US government will ask the Cubans to return the kids- and keep the parents. Stay tuned.

What I have read in our liberal rag was that He attended "anti government rally's'. Yelled"armedeggon" and owns a gun. What is illegal about that??? They raided his hotel room and arrested him for posession of pot and took the kids. Didn't Obama smoke pot? What about Hollywood dopers with kids?
Then the idiots who wrote the article claimed that the boat had as much room as a cubicle, only has 16 gal of water, was well over 90 inside and everyone had to be sea sick as the seas could have been over three feet.

Don't they know millions of people go sailing on 25 foot boats for fun??

Sounds like a witch hunt to me!
 
The whole story is a little fuzzy but the "anti government" label has me suspicious enough to have some sympathy for this couple. Sounds like an act of desperation reacting to what may be yet another government intrusion in people's life

Benefit of the doubt, at the very least

Evidently Cuba didn't want them. I think this guy has landed himself in a whole heap 'o trouble: kidnapping, assault, abduction, grand theft, AND traveling to Cuba without a visa etc. They'll be lucky to see their kids twenty years down the road. This wasn't real bright.

Cuba won't extradite murders to the US but these guys get priority? I don't know anything about these two as parents or why they lost their kids but this seems like excessive government intervention.

Do you know the details? nothing has been said about why he was arrested other than he had pot in the hotel room.

Well MSNBC'S Melissa Harris Perry says that " Children belong to the commnuity"!! They are not yours any more. Maybe her Fathers black panther thinking rubbed off on her.
